Scientists in Turkey have discovered that drinking spearmint tea may help to control excessive hair growth in women. Apparently drinking the spearmint tea twice a day helps to reduce the levels of male sex hormones which can be a contributing factor in excessive hair growth, or hirsutism, on the stomach, breasts and face of sufferers, causing distress or embarrassment. It is rare for hirsutism to be caused by any underlying medical condition, the most common cause being the over production of the male sex hormones which all women have in small quantities.
The normal treatments for hirsutism involve taking drugs in an effort to reduce the levels of the androgen, or male hormones, but the Turkish scientists are hoping that drinking spearmint tea could turn out to be a good natural alternative remedy. Scientists are conducting further tests to evaluate the extent of the findings, but suggest until further results are available that women suffering from excessive hair growth follow the medical advice given by their doctors.
